Symposium on low- and zero-carbon fuels for shipping held

The second IMO Smposium on low- and zero-carbon fuels for shipping was held on 21 October as a hybrid in-person and remote event at International Maritime Organization’s headquarters. The event brought together more than 1,500 participants from Member Governments, IGOs, NGOs and the general public.

The DPRK was represented by officials from Maritime Administration and Marine Environmental Protection Center.

The symposium held under the theme of “Ensuring a just and inclusive transition towards low-carbon shipping" had in-depth discussions about several issues arising in the development and use of low- and zero-carbon alternative fuels inter alia  future energy demand and the global availability of future marine fuels, price considerations of alternative low- and zero-carbon marine fuels, fostering renewable energy production in developing countries and challenges and opportunities of the fuel transition for developing countries
